EUSA Basketball Championships officially presented at the University of Bologna

The European University Basketball Championships 2025 were officially presented on June 6 in the historic building of the University that houses the Rector Office, in the presence of the Rector of the Alma Mater Studiorum Giovanni Molari, the Mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore, the Councillor for Sport of the Municipality of Bologna Roberta Li Calzi and the President of CUSB Piero Pagni. Maria Costi (Regional Councillor and President of the Youth, School, Training, Labour, Sport and Legality Commission of the Region of Emilia-Romagna), Andrea Dondi (Regional President of CONI Emilia-Romagna), Antonio Galli (President of FIP Emilia-Romagna), Gianluca Pavanello (Managing Director of Macron), Lorenzo Zitignani (Sales manager of Technogym and General Manager and Eco Founder of Plastic Free), Orazio Iacono (Managing Director of Hera Group), and Federico Gardumi (General Manager of Grand Tour Italia) were also present.
This great sports event, promoted by EUSA (European University Sports Association) and organised by the University of Bologna, will kick off with the opening ceremony on Sunday, July 6, in the Aula Magna of Santa Lucia (via Castiglione 37, Bologna): the 410 male and female players making up the 28 competing teams (16 men and 12 women teams from 16 countries) will compete in seven days of matches on three sports centers (Record University Sports Center, Terrapieno-Palacus University Sports Center, and Deborah Alutto Sports Center). Admission will be free for the public.
Giovanni Molari, Rector of the University of Bologna, officially welcomed the participants, thanking all the institutions, sponsors, and students who support the organisation: 'The Alma Mater is happy and proud to host the European Championships, which will be in Italy for the first time. It is a recognition that rewards the excellence of our University and territory. It is a prestigious event that is part of a path of continuous openness towards the world. It proves the excellent work that institutions, companies, and the territory can accomplish. The Alma Mater has always been committed to promoting sport. I hope it will be a week of sport and sociality because this is the best message that we can give.'
The event enjoys the patronage of the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Municipality of Bologna, Sport e Salute, CONI, FederCusi - the Italian Federation of University Sports, the Italian Basketball Federation, Lega Basket Serie A, the National Basketball League, and the Women Basketball League. For the best success of the event, the Organising Committee will be supported by 70 volunteers named 'BasketHeroes.'
