EUC Basketball 2025 wraps up in Bologna

The European Universities Basketball Championship 2025 finally concluded on 13 July with a thrilling Closing Ceremony at Terrapieno University Sports Centre in Bologna.
The ceremony brought together athletes, volunteers, organisers, and fans in a joyful celebration of achievement, friendship, and sporting excellence.
Over 400 participants from 22 Universities from 16 countries took part in this year’s edition of the event.
This diverse representation made the Championship a true display of European unity through sport, with numerous languages, cultures, and traditions converging on one stage.
In the men’s finals, the title of champion went to Vytautas Magnus University (LTU), which won a dynamic final match against the University of Bologna (ITA).
The bronze medal in the men's competition went into the hands of Polish Naval Academy of the Heroes of Westerplatte (POL), who played a great match against the University of Zagreb (CRO).
In the women’s finals, the title of champion/s went to the host university, University of Bologna (ITA), which won an exciting final match against the University of Valencia (ESP).
In the women's competition, the third place on the podium was occupied by the University of Toulouse (FRA) after a match against another French university, the University of Grenoble Alpes (FRA).
All matches delivered intense competition, loud crowds, and emotional moments, creating memories that will last a lifetime for players and spectators alike.
The medals and awards were presented by EUSA Honorary Member and SCAC Chair Peter George, Technical Delegate Pascale Weiwers, Assistant Technical Delegate Matthias Oehlmann, and President of CUS Bologna Piero Pagni.
In recognition of exemplary sportsmanship, the Fair Play Award was awarded to the Prague University of Economics and Business (women’s tournament) and the University of Debrecen (men’s tournament).
The MVP Award was given to Alessandra Ossili (University of Bologna) in the women's tournament and Augustinas Mikstas (Vytautas Magnus University) in the men's tournament.
The All-Star Team Award for the women's tournament was given to Lena Monasse (University of Toulouse), Lorena Segura Moreno (University of Valencia), Alessandra Ossili (University of Bologna), Henda Koita (University of Grenoble Alpes), and Alice Bremer (University of Gottingen).
The All-Star Team Award for the men's tournament was given to Augustinas Mikstas (Vytautas Magnus University), Justinas Ramanauskas (Vytautas Magnus University), Alberto Conti (University of Bologna), Marco Timperi (University of Bologna), and Klarica Krsevan (University of Zadar).
The EUSA flag was passed to the University of Zadar. This symbolic moment marked the official end of this year's Championship and passed on the responsibility and excitement to the next host city.
Throughout the Championship, the competition was marked not only by top-level performance but also by strong values of sportsmanship, cultural exchange, and mutual respect.
The dedicated volunteer team of over 70 local and international students played a key role in ensuring that the event ran smoothly from start to finish.
Some special awards of recognition were given to volunteers and the referees of the finals Daniella Torok, Bruna Silva e Flavie Chaillot (for the women finals) and Slobodan Novakovic Kushtrim Dvorani e Mathis Sorlut (for the men finals). They have consistently shown enthusiasm, fairness, and a true passion for this wonderful sport. A special award was also given to EUSA representatives, to thank them for their precious support for the event's success. A token of appreciation was also given to the EUSA representatives in recognition of their invaluable support and contribution to the success of the event.
Gruppo Hera, the event’s sponsor and sustainability partner, played a key role in promoting environmental responsibility during the championship. As part of their commitment, they launched a special challenge to reward the most sustainable teams of the tournament. The Eco Games Champions became the Technical University of Munich (in the men’s category) and the Szechenyi Istvan University (in the women’s category).
The next EUC in Basketball will take place in Zadar, Croatia, in 2027; however, all teams are warmly welcomed to join the basketball competition as part of the European Universities Games 2026 set to be held in Salerno, Italy.
